China secures its ninth diving gold medal at the world championships by presenting Yang with a victory.

The ninth gold medal in the diving event at this year’s World Aquatics Championships was won by Yang Hao on Saturday, before the Olympic Games.

 

Yang, aged 26, secures his first-ever individual world title in the men’s 10m podium with 564.05 points, placing him ahead of Olympic champion and fellow countryman Cao Yuan, who is second on the podium at 553.20 points. Ukraine’ Olimpia Oleksii Sereda also made an appearance on Tuesday, finishing with 528.65 points to their name.

 

A total of 13 diving medals, including seven gold in synchronized swimming, were won by Chinese athletes in Qatar.

During its absence, China won only one gold medal in 18 synchronized swimming events during the previous 12 world championships held from 2002 to 2022 in Budapest.

 

The nation has emerged victorious in four matches in Budapest and three in Fukuoka, Japan since then.

 

In the championships’ last week, there will be indoor swimming events starting on Sunday.

 

Tuesday marked the start of two more gold medals in high-level diving.
